Life Insurance With Free Gift 2021

What kind of gifts can you expect?

If you’re looking to purchase life insurance, you’ll already have seen a huge variety of providers to choose from, some even with similar products at similar price points.

In order to distinguish themselves from the competition, many insurance companies offer a variety of gifts to attract new customers. In this article we’ll look at the type of free gifts available to life insurance customers in 2020, and the conditions under which they’ll need to qualify. The most common type of gift offered is in the form of a gift card for a number of international and nationwide retailers.

Of course whilst free gifts are enticing, they should not form the primary basis on which you choose your life insurance provider/product. Life insurance is an important and costly commitment in the first place, and it is imperative that first and foremost, the policy terms and coverage amounts meet your needs.

The free gifts are certainly a “nice to have”, but one’s attention should primarily be centred on the policy’s key conditions, and monthly premiums. If you find policies similar across the board however, perhaps a free gift will sway your mind one way or the other.

Sainsbury's

Double your nectar points and add up to ninety pounds of value to your nectar card. Sainsbury’s is not just your local supermarket. When it comes to life insurance, it can also help provide the right cover, looking after your dependents when they need it most. If you are a nectar card holder and a regular Sainsbury’s shopper, then the gift offered with their life insurance product could be for you. Sainsbury’s life insurance has two elements to their gift offering: as well as giving you double Nectar card points, Sainsbury’s will also add up to ninety pounds worth of points to your Nectar card.

Your Nectar points will be worth twice as much as before from the date your policy starts.

After five months of paid premium, policyholders will receive a one-off bonus of up to ninety pounds of Nectar points. The number of points earned will relate to the cost of your premium and policy purchased. So:

If your monthly premium is under £8.50, you will receive Fifty Pounds worth of Nectar points (10,000)

If your monthly premium is £8.50 - £20, you will receive Seventy Pounds worth of Nectar points (14,000)

If your monthly premium is over £20, you will receive Ninety Pounds worth of Nectar points (18,000)

The important bits: double points begin from your policy start date, and you'll receive your points within 60 days after you have paid 5 months' premiums. Points will be awarded for no more than 2 policies per household in any 12 month period and Sainsbury’s must be told of your Nectar card number upon application.

The Post Office

Earn an Amazon, Argos, or Marks and Spencer Gift Card of Fifty Pounds. The Post Office does more than send your mail, it also has a host of financial services available including life insurance, and at competitive prices too. When you purchase a life insurance policy with the Post Office, you also qualify for a fifty pound gift card. This gift voucher, whilst less than other insurance companies’ incentives, is however redeemable at more vendors. There are three retailers the gift card is applicable to: Marks and Spencer, Argos, and Amazon.

In order to qualify for this free gift, the policyholder must have paid a minimum of six months premium (consecutively). After holding said policy for six months, the gift voucher will be sent out within the following 28 days. Many free gifts are restricted to one per household. However, this offer (whilst being one gift voucher per policy) is two gift cards per household. There is also more flexibility in accessing this offer. Many of the offers here are from purchasing online only. The Post Office allows you to obtain this offer not just online, but also over the phone and in branches across the UK.

The important bits: only one gift voucher per policy, two per household, with a six month qualifying period.

Vitality

Various savings and discounts with Vitality’s reward partners. Vitality places an emphasis on being “positively different”, and the insurance policies they offer encourage their policyholders to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In the same vein, Vitality life insurance doesn’t offer new customers an upfront gift in the same way as other providers. Rather than a straightforward gift card or voucher, Vitality has established partnerships that offer their policyholders a way of attaining and sustaining that healthy lifestyle more easily.

It is important to note that these rewards and benefits are only available with certain Vitality plans and products, and not at every level of life insurance policy.

To be eligible for the best range of rewards, one must:

  1. Be a Vitality Life insurance policyholder with either the Wellness Optimiser or the Vitality Optimiser (these cost an extra £4.50 a month)
  2. If purchasing a single plan, the monthly premium must be £45 or more; if a joint plan, £60.
  3. Once the above are fulfilled, access is then given to Vitality’s Reward Partners

Legal & General

Gift card from Marks and Spencer or Amazon of £100. Legal and General is not only one of the UK’s top life insurance providers, it also provides low life insurance premiums from just £6 month, can give you a quote in 2 minutes, and have you covered in fifteen.

When you buy a life insurance policy with Legal & General you can claim either a £100 Amazon gift card or £100 Marks & Spencer gift card. Like other insurance providers offering a gift card, one must have been a policyholder for at least six months and paid all premiums up to that date. This offer has increased since last year when it was previously a £70 gift card, so if you find that the Legal and General life policy now suits your needs, it is a good time to get it.

The important bits: 6 months premiums must be paid before policyholders can claim their gift card (only one per policy). Offer until at least 30/04/2020

Churchill

Choice of Tesco, Marks and Spencer or Amazon gift card (value up to £180).As a life insurance provider, Churchill is a well-known, dependable brand with their life payouts in 2018 being 99% to the millions of customers they serve across the UK.

Churchill offer a gift card for use at several retailers on purchase of a new life insurance policy. This gift voucher is worth up to £180, and valid at either Amazon, Marks & Spencer or Tesco.

Like other offers, the value of the gift card is tied to how much you pay for your premiums:

  • Paying between £4 - £10 a month gets you a £35 gift card
  • Paying between £10.01 and £20 per month gets a £60 gift card
  • Paying between £20.01 and £30 per month gets a £120 gift card
  • Paying over £30 gets you a gift card of £180

One should note that Churchill life insurance is provided through AIG, so if you've previously purchased an AIG life policy, you might not qualify for this free gift.

Policyholders will qualify for their e-Gift card six months after the policy start date, provided:

  • the policy has not been cancelled in that time
  • Premium payments are fully up to date
  • a claim has not been made

The important bits: you will be eligible for your free gift after paying your premiums for 6 months. Cashback customers are excluded from this offer whilst only one gift card available per policy (two per household). As Chuchill is underwritten by AIg, if you've previously taken out an AIG policy, you might not qualify.

Beagle Street offers its new life insurance customers a £100 Amazon gift card. Whilst you must have been a policyholder for at least six months, the qualifying premium amount only needs to be £10 or over, which is a lower threshold (relative to the value of this gift card) than other policy offers. Once your policy has been live for 6 months, you’ll receive an email within 30 days from this date to claim the gift (details will be sent via email or text). You then have 90 days from the date of that email or text message to make your claim.

Amazon gift card of seventy-five pounds. Smart Insurance offers a range of life insurance products that look to suit you whatever your personal circumstances or particular needs.

They offer a £75 Amazon gift card, collectible upon your sixth consecutive monthly premium. The premiums paid must exceed that value, so if your premiums are on the low side, it will take longer to claim. It’s also important to mention that this gift card is only available to new Smart Insurance Family Life customers, and not those with Smart Guaranteed Life Insurance policies.

The Important bits: one Gift Card per policy, with no cash alternative available. This gift card is not valid for customers who receive a cash sum when they buy a Smart Insurance product via a price comparison or cashback site. Life insurance purchased with the Coop Insurance Service also comes with £50 of Co-op food vouchers. If this supermarket is your local food shop, this might be the gift for you. For some, the gift vouchers included with other life policies might not be as useful.

Another thing to note is that the Co-op life insurance policy is underwritten by Royal London who themselves don’t offer a free gift on policy purchase. So if you’re keen to have a policy backed by Royal London, this could be an alternative with a small bonus.

In addition, most free gifts from other insurer providers have a minimum waiting time of six months; Co-op life is only four before you can claim your gift.

The important bits: gifts can be purchased either online or over the phone. One voucher per policy, with vouchers only valid in Co-Op branded stores. Currently valid on policies purchased up to 30th June 2020, eligibility for free gift after four months of paid premiums.

Price Comparison Sites

Whilst these are not life insurance providers, price comparison sites still give access to some free gifts when purchasing life insurance via their website. Here we look at two of the most generous and well-known: ComparetheMarket.com and MoneySupermarket.com.

MoneySupermarket.com

Amazon gift card of a hundred pounds. MoneySupermarket.com offers a £100 gift card from Amazon. Policyholders are eligible for one Amazon gift card per policy, and must take out a life insurance policy online to claim this.

Policyholders still have to hold their life insurance policy for a minimum of six months, and make sure all payments are up to date. An advantage of this gift offer over others is that the £100 gift card is not dependent on the level of premium payment amounts.

The important bits: six months of premium must be paid before your free gift card can be claimed, with online purchase needed for eligibility. One gift card per policy.

Compare the Market

Amazon gift card up to the value of £195. Compare the Market gives the most generous gift card, up to the value £195. However, the value of the gift you might receive is staggered depending on the monthly premium cost and the provider, as presented below:
