Want to stand out? Try our “Fancy” theme
Posted on October 2nd, 2008 143 comments
Latest version 1.1.1 (19/10/2009).
- Changed from <? to <?php. In some cases it wouldn’t allow to include custom.php file.
- Changed widget HTML code. Now you could put a widget without a header and it won’t broke HTML code.
Version 1.1.0 (04/12/2008).
- Added 100% height to the background.
- Re-packed the zip file, when it’s decompressed the files would be in a folder “fancy”.
Version 1.0.9 (27/11/2008).
- Included wp_footer() in footer.php, stats plugin and many others should work fine now (bug discovered by Antonio, thanks)
Version 1.0.8 (20/11/2008).
- Fixed some font issues.
- Styled blockquote, code tags in comments.
Version 1.0.7 (05/11/2008).
- Made XHTML code valid again. My previous updates broke it.
Version 1.0.6 (05/11/2008).
- Reorganized the way I do modifications to my CSS file (thanks for raising this issue Joseph Scott & E-namers). Now everyone would be able to load this theme without any issues.
Version 1.0.5 (04/11/2008).
- Added an addittional option which controls font size of the whole template (smaller, bigger). Big font looks really nice, don’t forget to try (I’m currently using this preference on my blog).
- Fixed sidebar’s paddings. Any widget would look nice now.
- Fixed search widget styles.
- Some minor design fixes.
Initial version 1.0.0 (02/10/2008).
“Fancy” is a free WordPress theme which really lets your blog stand out from the crowd. Make your blog unique by changing the primary and secondary blog colors (pink, yellow, green), background pattern (available over 20 background variations), banner etc through an options page. In addition you have the ability to choose the color of sidebar blocks (violet, yellow, green).
Tech folks might find interesting that we built this theme based on CSS framework “Blueprint”. If you like to make grid visible, just put “showgrid” class on the main div which already has the class “container”.
Features:
- Let’s your blog stand out from the crowd.
- Ability to change the primary & secondary blog colors (pink, yellow, green).
- Ability to choose a background from over 20 variations.
- Sidebar blocks available in 3 colors (pink, yellow, green).
- Based on CSS framework “Blueprint”.
- Valid CSS & XHTML
- SEO optimized.
- 2 columns.

Hi! I love this theme, thank you for sharing it with us. I do have one question for you, the second row of pages only shows up when you rest your mouse over it.
Could you tell me specifically how to change the code, where to go to change the code, so I can make the 2nd row of pages to show up?Thank you so much for your help!

Hi!
I’m using your really great theme as well – but I made a few changes. My version is now in HTML5 and includes WAI-ARIA landmarks. Further, I made some minor changes to the info-section of each post & changed the comment form layout. Visit my site to see the changes in action! If someone is interested in this: Feel free to contact me! Maybe I’ll write a short tutorial about it as well
Greetings from Germany

@Markus
Hey Markus, I just saw your blog. Great work!! I am also using this great theme. I have modified it a bit in my own way. I also wanted to create a 468×60 adbox at the top right but could not do it. Can you help me plz.? -
Is there any way to add drop down menus to the top menu navigation? If so can you please supply the code I would really appreciate it, thank you!

Hi AZ,
I am enjoying this theme but have a couple of minor problems:
1. When comments are closed (in my case, after 30 days) a closure notification is not being displayed.
2. Comments are not being broken into pages inspite of selecting this option in wordpress admin panel (under discussion) (I am not sure whether this one is a wordpress bug)Though these are very minor problems, I have mentioned these for your consideration during future updates.
Thanks a lot.

Hey AZ Money,
I really like the fancy theme. Personally I think that the default theme is the best. But, I have one question though. How can you integrated categories into the header menu. It seems like the header is only configured for pages as opposed to pages and categories. Is it possible to add a tab for categories that drops down in to a multilevel menu?
Thanks,
-
Hi Max!
I hope the comment form / output allows some PHP code. Here we go:
In the “navigation.php” you’ll find something that says:
Replace this bit with this:
I’m not sure wether the CSS file has to be changed too since I re-wrote a lot of the code for my needs. For further information about tweaking the output take a look at the wordpress docs: http://codex.wordpress.org/Template_Tags/wp_list_categoriesGood luck

Markus-
Well, apparently it didn’t get the PHP code. I’ll give it another try. Replace
wp_list_pages('sort_column=menu_order&depth=1&title_li=');
with
wp_list_categories('depth=1&title_li=');
Hope it worked this time

this worked thanks!!! switched back, do you know how to get drop-down menu in nav bar???

Pleaaaase help! How can I change the font size and colour in my posts? I want the writing even bigger than the large option you give
-
Hi!
Go to: Design => Editor. The file “style.css” / Stylesheet should be open. If it isn’t: Open it
Search for “.post p, .post a, .post li {font-size:15px}”. Right there, change the font-size to whatever you want. The px value is comparable to the standard Word font settings.
Hope this helps…
Greetings
Markus

Hello,
Your theme is really nice and I would like to use it … but I think that should be very nice if I can do a drop-down menu for the horizontal page menu … do you knowhow to make it ?
Thank you very much for your help,
Stephane -
I saw a previous question, but didn’t see a reply. I love the theme, but I need the ability to support sub menu’s below the top level. Markus – Do you have any ideas on how to modify the theme to support this?
Thanks in advance,

Hi
Loving this theme but am struggling changing the header text colour and the navigation for active and roll overs….
Can you please let me know where I find this. It’s not in the style.css and from my limited knowledge seems to be in the actual HTML source, but I can’t see where that is defined.
Am I being a dumb arse???!!!
Please help. Some one. Any one.
Thanks

Hi there,
I have been trying to insert the correct feed url link into the header with the icon is but it does not seem to work. I am using feedburner and have my link but I have pasted in but still does not work. I am not sure if I have 1. pasted the incorrect url, or pasted it in the wrong place. Could someone kindly tell me where to get the right url/code and where exactly I paste it to.Also, I would like to change the order my pages as shown in the header bar, how would I do this? And finally, like a lady above asked if your page title in the header goes into the second line you cannot see it unles the mouse is over it? How can I retifiy this.
Great theme by the way!
Best,

Hi,
I just downloaded this template earlier and it’s pretty awesome since it really reflects my personality.one question though… How can I replace the title (right now it’s just text) with an actual logo?
I know it’s in the CSS but all it seems to do is display the logo behind the title…
Thanks again!

Okay, I have another question in regards to my amazon eshop. . I have put in the html code intp the page and it works great other than it does not show the right hand side bar. When i put the bar on the left hand side, 1/3 of my books is cut off from the main body. How do I show the whole content of my e-shop: main boody and RHS column?
Thaks in advance.

Hi!
I dont know much about css so can anyone please tell how do I make the background color just white, and how do I change the color of the side boxes to just one color?
Thanks!!

I love the theme. I am trying to change the text in the sidebar to black text without the black background. Also, How would I center my affiliate banners in the sidebar?

Hi,
I finally found a solution to the question posted earlier about replacing the Wordpress title with a logo for the Fancy theme..
I simply set the float alignment of the title to -9000. This places it far left on the page (so far left that it’s impossible for it to show up anywhere on your page). After this, I set the background image for the header section to our logo.
I just applied a little tweaks to the font size of the title to increase/decrease the space for the header space.
Thanks again! Lovely theme, very clean and flexible.

Hiya! Does anyone know how to stop the comments from being closed on a wordpress.org account? I have posted a message to the wordpress forum with no avail! When I go into edit or even when i write a post the comments boxes are ticked, but then when i post it states ‘comments are closed’. Then when I go back to edit the comment boxed are unticked. I then tick it again but still ‘comments are closed’ still appears. Really frustrating. I don’t really know how to use html, so wouldn’t know what to delete or add, or even WHERE to delete or add the relevant information. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks

Hey, I really like your design so we used it for our college project. But we have one difficulty – we want to insert sub pages. But we have no idea how to show those on the site. Is there a way to have sub pages? We really need them. If there is no way to have those, we have to switch the design, and we really don’t want to do that.
Please help us! Thank you!

Hi,
Great theme… I was wondering if there is a quick way to simply remove the RSS Feed button. I’ve browsed the web and found some short code suggestions but I can’t seem to make it disappear.
Thanks for your help!
